The ingredient in this recipe is very very easy to find you might even have half of them in your home already.
The first thing I want to tell you is try not to feel overwhelmed you might not have the same exact brands or missing one ingredient it is okay to use what you have. Just know the quality of the ingredients you use is important and how natural they are. Avoid using altered butter and oils scents can be added later.
At this point, I am pretty sure you are way more interested in the quality of your product and benefits right ??
For now, let’s just enjoy that beautiful spark in your chest to try making your first your amazing whipped body butter. This whipped body butter recipe is perfect for dry skin in cooler months and can be soothing to eczema and many skin condition.
Ingredients
Shea Butter – 2.5 oz
Mango Butter – 2.5 oz
Coconut Oil – 3.5 oz
Sweet Almond Oil – 1 cup
Arrowroot Powder – 1/8 cup optional
Essential Oil
Electric Hand Whisker
Bowls
Spatula
Pyrex Measuring Cup
- Googles and gloves
- High precision scale
- Heat safe Pyrex jug or bowl to weight and melt the oils and butters
- Bowl to weigh the sodium hydroxide
- Heat safe stainless steel or Pyrex jug to mix the lye solution
- Stainless steel tablespoon; optional, silicone spatula
- Stick blender ( for whipping )
- Thermometer; either a candy thermometer or a laser one
- Jars or Tins
- Labels
Substitutions
Any variety of oil works (such as extra virgin, refined or unrefined). I have used pure non-extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, and unrefined shea butter here. You can also use a different essential oil, however do make sure to check any contraindications first. If you want to make a smaller or larger batch, divide or multiple each ingredient as necessary.
Tips For Making DIY Body Butter

- Add some zinc oxide to this recipe to make it a sunscreen.
- You can double or triple this recipe.
- Be careful using citrus oils, like lemon or orange, since they can make your skin photosensitive. If you do use them, don’t go out in the sun for awhile. Or, simply use this body butter at night.
- This recipe will last about 3-6 months. (it helps to make a label and write the date and times it was made ).
Directions
Step One:
Gear up for safety: Making this whipped body butter does not include chemicals however when doing DIY it is always important to PUT SAFETY FIRST !
Step Two:
Meltdown Shea butter, coconut oil, and mango butter using a double boiler or by adding them to a heat-safe bowl and placing that bowl over a pot of boiling water.
Step Three:
Once melted, remove from heat and add sweet almond oil
Step Four:
Let mixture harden in the refrigerator for 1.5 hours (Be careful not to leave it in too long as this might cause water crystals to form in your oils and make whipping your butter a challenge. )
Step Five:
After the mixture is semi-hardened, begin to mix with hand-mixer on high setting for 10 minutes.
Step Six:
Mid way through mixing, add arrowroot powder then continue mixing. Remeber this is completely option.
Why would I need arrowroot powder Are there any benefits?
Arrow root powder will absorb any excess oil in your mixture to make it NOT GREASY .
Benefits
Helps exfoliate and improve skin tone. It soothes sunburns, rashes, and other skin irritations.
Step Seven:
Store your whipped body butter in a labeled air-tight jar. Avoid any water from entering your mixture and this will affect the life of you whipped body butter.
